Abstract

This article overviews the major milestones of Panamanian economic development, with a review of
the political and economic circumstances that served as its backdrop. It places special emphasis on
what will be the three trends with potential to transform Panamanian society in the coming years and
concludes with some annotations on the role of fiscal and budget management to shield and ensure
the benefits that came about due to economic growth in the past decade.
